LDR News Release – Former temp worker at Dept. of Revenue faces felony theft charges

BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge woman faces felony charges related to a stolen money order intended for the payment of state income taxes.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) arrested Carol Ann Wilson, of 2132 Gardere Lane, Apartment B following a joint investigation between LSP and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR). Wilson is a former temporary worker hired by a staffing agency on behalf of LDR.

The alleged crime came to light in September 2010 when a taxpayer complained that a money order he submitted for the payment of his 2009 income taxes had not been credited to his account.  LDR spent several months working with the taxpayer to track the money order, and finally concluded that it had been taken by a temporary employee in the LDR revenue processing center.  Working with state police, LDR investigators determined the money order had been cashed at a local business.  A clerk identified Wilson as the person who cashed it.

Police arrested Wilson on Friday, May 27, 2011, and charged her with the following felony counts:

  • Abuse in office
  • Theft under $500
  • Malfeasance in office
  • Monetary instrument abuse
